The bi-layer tablets provide an immediate release of amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium and an extended release of amoxicillin. This enhanced formulation prolongs the time that bacteria are exposed to the antibiotic and promotes coverage of tough-to-treat S. pneumoniae.
